Round Rugs have a special place in the heartland of AmericaRound rugs come to mind when one thinks of a country farmhouse. Braided rugs have been around for hundreds of years and many of them are the style of round area rugs. Years ago strips of cloth from worn garments were braided together in various forms, some three strand round braids and some flat. The three strand method was the most common, although there are strands with as many as eight strips or cords. These braids were then sewn together to make beautiful oval and round rugs. As time went on, people began to dye cloth to make the braids, and there are some beautiful round rugs that have borders and centers of different colors that complement each other. We also saw round area rugs where the round center had been hooked with a picture of a rooster, and then braids were added around the center to make a large, lovely floor covering. Round rugs make a perfect setting for a round dining table, especially those antique oak tables that have a pedestal base. We have also seen round Oriental styles in the Jewel Oriental carpets, which have various Oriental and Persian designs. Outdoor round rugs are favoritesSome of our favorite round rugs are synthetic outdoor braided styles that are designed to be used pool side or on an outdoor deck. They can be hosed off for cleaning and are made to handle the weather. Round styles are also good for the kitchen, or maybe you have a square entry area. Here they can add interest where they look terrific in the center. Round rugs can also be good for classrooms where children can gather for circle time, to sing and share. Round area rugs definitely have their niche and many lovely styles and designs can be found online.
